Small Things
I do a lot of talking here at “Getting Down With Jesus.” This week, I want to do some “doing.”
On Wednesday, bloggers from around the globe are participating in Blog Action Day 2008, when bloggers will publish posts and discuss poverty on their sites. It’s an effort to raise awareness about poverty, and add momentum to an important cause.
But I want to do more than talk about poverty. I want to do something. My girls, 6 and 4, are helping me come up with some simple ideas. They aren’t big things. They are small acts of love. But I won’t underestimate the power of one small act.
Like my friend Renae says: “You can do great things for the Lord by doing little things for others.”
So on Wednesday, my girls and I will do some little things. Will you share with me some ideas you might have?
At High Calling Blogs, a brother posted this message from Bono, who puts the problem into perspective: “Around the world 30,000 people are still dying of extreme stupid poverty everyday.”
Here’s what else Bono has to say:
See you on Wednesday!
I look forward to reading your post!
Yesterday I was talking to a friend and we were marveling about how people come at the same problems from different angles. We realized that she is a do-something-to-care-for-the-needy-through-face-to-face-help person and that I am a do-something-to-care-for-the-needy-at-the-structural/societal/organizational-level person. Two different ways of being. Both needed.
Not that we don’t sometimes cross those boundaries, but we surely have our particular gifts.
What a great idea! Thanks for alerting me to this. I’m gonna put it on my blog as well.
