A Call to Love (A November to Remember: 11.21.2014)

Today’s Scripture — 11.21.2014

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other. – John 15:15-17

You are God’s favorite. Every one of you.

It’s, like, a tie for first place. 🙂

He loves you best, because you are His friend.

Greater love has no man than this, that he would lay down his life for a friend.

And Jesus did just that. For you. Your name coursed through the beating heart of a dying Savior who now lives and reigns in heaven.

He calls you friend. And now, he calls you to love.

His fathomless love changes how you and I will live in our moments, how we’ll love in our neighborhoods, and what we’ll be known for in eternity.

This post is part of our month-long series, “A November to Remember: Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes.

How You Can Be a Part of This Movement:

1 – Print out the Scripture sheets. (Click here for printable versions.) Each of the 30 daily Scriptures are quoted in Love Idol, and each one ties back in some way to our identity in Christ. (You don’t have to read the book to participate in this study. But of course, you’re welcome to!

:)
 )

2 – Find the passage assigned for today’s date.

3 – Consider how God is speaking to you. How does the verse help you remember who you really are, outside of all the cultural noise?

4 – Visit us on the blog, or the Love Idol movement page on Facebook, to share what the verse means to you.

5 – Share your insights on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or your blog, to add more soul to your scroll. #MoreSoulLessScroll

:)
Tag me, so I can find you. (Or feel free to follow along silently! No social-media presence required.)

I’ll post my own response here on the blog every morning at 5 a.m. Sometimes, you’ll find a story, maybe a few short words, maybe a series of photos. That will happen every day, for all of November, God-willing.

Studies show that the best way to form a habit, is to NOT break the chain. Habits form if you keep at it, one day after the next after the next. After our 30 days, we may have created a new habit of Scripture before Scrolling – a habit that can take us into the Christmas season, and beyond.

You had me chuckling at the second line, that we’re all tied for first place. Love that! In spite of our different gifts, personalities, backgrounds, and pursuits, we’re all equally valuable to our Heavenly Father. With that affirmation behind us, we can go forward with confidence to live in our moments and love in our neighborhoods. Beautifully and thoughtfully composed, Jennifer.

This morning I was playing cards with my 5-year-old, when he suddenly belted out a song about how we are all special to God. I asked him, “Do you think that’s true, Cooper?” He looked surprised at my silly question and then said, “Yeah Mom, we are all special, because we are special to God.” Out of the mouths of babes. It seemed so clear. We don’t draw our special from fancy cars or big accomplishments. We are special because we are special to God. His words echo with the message you have for us here. Thank you for sharing.
