An Interview with Jesus
You can take the girl out of the newsroom, but you can’t take the newsroom out of the girl. I can be such a Nosy Nellie sometimes.
The Bible contains all the words and promises and stories that we need to live a life of faith. But my imagination runs wild when I read that verse tucked into the last part of the Gospel of John.
“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
— John 20:21
I read those words, and I ache to know more. The commentators and theologians say the Gospel writers gave us just what we needed; more would have been unnecessary. They say John was using hyperbole when he wrote that way. Still, I wonder.
What would a whole world filled with the retelling of Jesus’ miracles look like?
And then I think about the way you and I are a part of the story, with feet and hands and mouths to spread the Gospel to all corners.
And I think about the way God’s wonders are evident in every cobweb, snowflake, grain of sand. Ah … maybe the whole world really is filled with the story of God at work?
The Holy Ghost saw it fit to limit the pages of Scriptures. Perhaps our minds could only handle so much in print. And the rest of the story? Perhaps it’s still being told.
As for Jesus’ miracles, they were innumerable and marvelous, and all the pages of all the books in the world could not contain the whole of them.
So, I have a prayer. I’m hoping God will let this Nosy Nellie take her old reporter’s notebook to Heaven someday. I’d like an interview with the King.
This is submitted as part of The Gypsy Mama’s Five-Minute Friday, in which we take five minutes to just write. It has been an invigorating experience. Want to join along? Here’s how it works: Gypsy Mama gives a word prompt, and we have five minutes to write about it, without fussing or editing. Just write…This week’s prompt: WHOLE. I felt led to write about one of my favorite passages in the Bible, tucked there at the end of the Gospels, about Jesus’ stories filling the WHOLE world. Want to join us in this writing journey?
what a wonderful message…. I too would like to hear more and maybe that is what we see every day when we look for miracles.
Oh I love this Jennifer. You always make me want more of Him and to know more and more too.
“And then I think about the way you and I are a part of the story, with feet and hands and mouths to spread the Gospel to all corners.” You definitely love, shine and share Him in amazing ways to all of us dear friend.
Thank you for being such an amazing beautiful woman of God.
Love you,
Alleluiabelle
That’s always been one of my favorite verses, too.
Someday you’ll get that interview. Of course, you won’t be able to write it up and print it (which will be a real bummer), but maybe when you’re face to face with the Savior you won’t mind so much.
This is such a great take on the word Jennifer. I have often thought about the people in the Old Testament the Spirit chose to write about. Surely there were other stories going on at the same time. I wonder what they were and what those people were like. Maybe we’ll get to do that interview some day!
People say that the age of miracles passed a long time ago. Maybe we just don’t know how to recognize them. Good post, Jennifer.
I’ve wondered too … so please let me know what you find out!
great post – can’t believe you wrote it in 5 minutes! Not sure I could do that and it make any sense!
Love your heart and your spirit Jennifer. You always bless me and shine for Jesus!
So many stories the world would have no room for the books – Oh, I want to read those untold stories. I’ve always been curious about letters not included in the New Testament. After all, they couldn’t include everything in one book that people could carry around: http://www.biblica.com/bibles/faq/7/
Ah! Don’t worry, Jennifer! One day in heaven we will all know of the miracles that were not written down in books! All will be revealed. And I have to agree…Jesus’ miracles are still happening today. Every life turned over to Him is the greatest miracle of all.
Blessings to you, Joan
I’m picturing the enormity of His miracles….too numerous to be held by all the Kindles, Nooks, and hard drives we can imagine.
Wow.
Jennifer, thanks!
“Ah … maybe the whole world really is filled with the story of God at work?” I am new to writing, and find it hard to understand how, in five minutes, the volume of writing with no errors is accomplished. This post causes me to ‘Selah’ pause and consider. “Perhaps it’s still being told.” Thank you…yes.
I loved your approach to this topic. I can’t wait to hear whole story!
