This Is a New Morning Routine Checklist That Actually Works
Let’s be honest: mornings can be messy. Some days start with worship music and hot coffee. Others start with a mad dash to find your keys, feed the dog, and wrestle your thoughts back to something resembling peace. That’s why I created a morning routine checklist called the Wake Up Well Checklist – one that actually works in real life.
And it’s FREE!
As a wife, mom, writer, and someone who lives on a busy Iowa farm, I know what it feels like to long for a Christian morning routine so I can start the day with God. But here’s my confession: Even as a woman in ministry, I’ve not always known where to begin, and the demands of the day can crowd out my quiet time before I even get a chance to begin.
Thankfully, I have learned so much about faith-based morning routines over the years, and now I want to share what’s been most helpful! I’ve created the Wake Up Well Checklist — a God-centered morning routine that will help you build a doable morning that tends to both your soul and your schedule.
And guess what?
The best mornings aren’t perfect.
They’re just pointed in the right direction.
That’s what the Wake Up Well Checklist is all about!
What is the Wake Up Well Checklist?
The Wake Up Well Checklist is a simple rhythm of spiritual habits designed to help you love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength — just like Jesus said in Mark 12:30.
Whether you’ve got ten minutes or an hour, this checklist helps you:
- Center your heart on what matters most
- Stay grounded in Scripture and gratitude
- Start your day with purpose, without striving
- Honor your mind and body, not just your to-do list
It’s more than a typical morning routine checklist.
It’s a grace-filled start to your day – intentionally, gently, and consistently. Every Christian woman I know wants to start her day with God. Here’s a tool to make it happen!
What’s in This Christian Morning Routine Checklist?
The Wake Up Well Checklist includes three focus areas rooted in biblical wholeness:
Heart & Soul
- A morning prayer or breath prayer
- A place for you to record your Scripture of the day
- A short gratitude prompt
- A moment of stillness or worship
Mind
- A no-phone-first habit
- A space for a daily intention or affirmation
- A place to list your top 3 priorities of the day
- A prompt to release what’s weighing on you
Strength
- A physical check-in (how do you feel today?)
- Gentle movement or stretching
- A reminder to take care of your body with hydration + a nourishing breakfast
Plus a short reflection section:
“What do I need from God today?”
“How do I want to show up today for myself, others, and God?”

A Note from Jennifer
I believe mornings were made for fresh beginnings. Not perfection or pressure, but presence with God. A faith-based morning routine can help you anchor your day in what matters most.
Healthy mornings are possible, even if you wake up tired, if the house is loud, if you feel behind before your feet hit the floor. God is already in your morning!
One thing that makes this morning routine checklist so unique is that it’s so well-rounded, taking into consideration all the parts of you: heart, soul, mind, and strength.
This morning routine checklist isn’t about adding more to your plate. It’s about aligning your morning with the One who holds it all together. I hope it helps you experience peace and connection, one day at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I miss a day?
There’s no guilt here. God doesn’t require a perfect streak from you. He is simply inviting you to begin the day with him. If you couldn’t make it work today, start again tomorrow.
How much time will it take?
That all depends on how much time you spend with each section. You can spend as little as ten minutes going through the morning routine checklist, or as much as an hour. As you go through each section, put a checkmark in the box, so you know what you’ve accomplished. If you’re like me, putting little checkmarks in boxes gives me a sense of accomplishment.
How will I know which Scriptures to study?
You can choose to select a single passage from the Gospels, or a lengthy story from Genesis — or anywhere in between! If you don’t know where to start, you could begin in the Gospel of John, the Psalms, or Proverbs. There are many great online reading plans, including some excellent ones at YouVersion.
Can I use this checklist at night instead?
You can! While it’s definitely designed for mornings, the rhythms work at any time of day. Use it before bed to reset, reflect, and prepare for tomorrow.
Do I need to do everything on the list?
Not at all. This Christian daily checklist is a flexible guide to support your soul without overwhelming your schedule. Use the parts that serve your soul in this season, and then release the rest.
