Morning Prayer for My Husband: How to Bless the One You Love
I keep a running list by my coffee maker of people I’m praying for. It helps me make the most of the moments I pause here, waiting for my mug to fill. At the top of my list is a morning prayer for my husband, because I’ve found that praying daily for him is one of the best ways to invest in our marriage.
A Morning Prayer for My Husband
Maybe there is tension in your marriage today. You’re just making it through the day, but barely. Or you’re holding it together for the kids. May I reach an arm right through this page to offer you a hug?
No matter how much we love the man we married, marriage is far from easy.
There are good days and falling-apart days.
Days of little squabbles and petty annoyances.
Days you laugh together till you’re both in tears.
Days you think you’re getting better at this marriage thing,
and days you question everything.
All of these days, my friend, are opportunities to bless the one you love. So whether this prayer rolls off your tongue easily or haltingly, here’s a blessing to pray over your husband today:
Lord, thank you for my husband. I ask that You would go before him today.
As he heads to work, lighten his heart with Your peace. Be the strength he relies on today. Fill him with wisdom for all the decisions he must make.
Steady him when his steps falter. Renew him when his energy runs out.
Jesus, may Your voice in his ear be clear, even when the day is loud. Bring Your clarity. Be his confidence.
Gently remind him of what’s not his to carry, worry about, or fix. Help him to trust that You will provide.
Open his eyes to see where You are at work and stir his heart to follow in Your footsteps.
Lead my husband in Your everlasting love, everywhere he goes. May he step boldly into all You call him to. May he reflect You in all he says and does.
And as he returns home, help us to greet one another with tenderness and gratitude. May I bless him, not only through this prayer, but also with my presence.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessings are Like a Boomerang
If there is more you’d like to add to your prayer, keep going. I hope my morning prayer for my husband is a springboard to help you pray for yours.
I notice something shifts in my heart, especially on the days marriage feels complicated, when I pray blessings over my husband. Have you experienced it as well?
As I build up and believe God’s best for my husband, my own heart is blessed.
It’s almost like blessings are a boomerang. We plant truth with our words, and hope grows. The good we seek for our spouses reminds us of how God also strengthens us and supplies for our needs.
A morning prayer of blessing for your spouse turns your attention toward God — and off of the things that get in between you and your husband. Not only does it invite faith-filled thriving for him, it keeps your own eyes on Jesus.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, and little misunderstandings will matter less.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, and you’ll fill with grace.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, and you’ll more easily see the good in your husband.
Whether your marriage is stronger today than it’s ever been or it feels shaky, here’s my challenge to you: pray for your husband every morning. Believe for him. Trust him to God–then watch what happens!
A Prayer For You
While you’re praying for your husband, I’m praying for you — praying for grace to forgive and humility to listen, praying for life-giving words and a heart of genuine gratitude. I’m praying that, when your pillow is tear-stained or your insides are in knots, that the comforting presence of Jesus will hold you close.
And I’m praying for time to connect, to dream and laugh together, to hold hands and watch the sun set. Praying for rekindled love and reset priorities and God shining bright through both of you. Praying that God would be the rock at the center of your marriage, the center of your family.
To borrow the words of Paul, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13 NIV).
No matter what your marriage looks like at this moment, taking a moment to bless the one you love will remind you what you love about him. It will set your gaze on Jesus, right at the start of your day. And it will invite God to shape both his day and yours.
Feel free to print out this prayer. Put it on your fridge (or next to your coffee maker) as a daily reminder to pray for your husband. Want to keep it more discreet? Tuck it into your Bible–but leave your Bible somewhere you’ll see at the beginning of the day. Visual reminders take a lot of the work out of forming new habits.
