Happy Thanksgiving
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel … ” Philippians 1:3-5
Today, as Thanksgiving nears, I give thanks for you, dear reader.
It has been a blessing getting to know you through the comments you’ve left here at Getting Down With Jesus, and especially through the stories you’ve told on your own blogs of your families, your hopes, your struggles. Some of you are friends from my pre-blogging life, but I am equally blessed to have made some new friends here at Getting Down With Jesus over the last few months.
I am new to the world of blogging — having just started in July — and I am in awe of how people so willingly take off their masks and get real with one another through their blogs.
It can feel risky, making oneself so vulnerable. That was the whole point of my blog in the first place — to “get down” to Truth and get real with Jesus. I have spent much of my life trying to keep the most vulnerable parts hidden. And frankly, I still do plenty of that. Thank you, reader, for showing me how this is done, for giving me encouragement even when I fall short and for being authentic even when it feels scary.
I’ve been inspired, challenged, and strengthened in my faith because of God working through you. This blogging thing we do truly is a “partnership in the gospel,” the spreading of the Good News through a device that spans the globe — the World Wide Web.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. While you’re here — just for fun — take a moment to vote in the Thanksgiving Day poll in the left-hand margin.
Be blessed!
This made me smile, very much. What a lovely post 🙂
With regards to the poll at the left of the blog…turkey can get over cooked, as can stuffing. Never really cared for green bean casserole, so I guess that makes my vote Super Soynuts. You can never go wrong with the good ol’ Super Soynuts, no matter which flavor…brought to you by Lee Seed Co., Inwood, IA!
God bless you and yours, friend!

Thank you for reminding me of yet another thing to be thankful for. I too am amazed at all of the blessings blogging has brought into my life.
Happy Thanksgiving, friend!

Hi Jennifer!
Thanks for being a part of the family, and may God continue to bless you. I’ll be working this Thanksgiving (people still fly), but I’m thankful for a job, and I’ll be grateful for the leftovers 🙂
And we are thankful for you!! You bring tears to my eyes, and joy to my heart with your blog. And always remind me of what our Savior gives, and gave for, us. Miss you!!
Though I might have voted for super soy nuts, I have to go with the dressing, and the leftover dressing, and the dressing that’s left over after that…
How many times did Chris vote for Super Soynuts?
Thankful for you too, my friend!
Nice post! Reading about Thanksgiving made me remember that I have so many things to be thankful for. I think we should celebrate Thanksgiving also in Finland, where I live. =D
The great thing about being in a intimate relationship with Christ is that we can have thanks giving everyday of the year.
I have enjoyed reading your encouraging words. I pray that God will continue to grant you clarity, prosperity, and peace.
with blessings,
Minister Mamie
Wow, I would not have guessed you are new to blogging; you are such a pro! I’ve been doing it for roughly a year and a half and I don’t nearly come across as elegant as you do in your posts. Maybe we can trade places sometimes? 🙂
I think I can speak for many of us readers that we are just as thankful for you as you are for us. I don’t remember the first time I came across your blog but I knew instantly that yours was one I wanted to stay connected with.
Your writings are very enjoyable and always remind me to stay focused on Him, which God knows I need the constant reminder of that. So yes, it’s very true that when writing in a blog (journal) it can be very personal and vulnerable. Believe me, I don’t always like being the Christ follower who feels like I can’t get past the baby food and move onto the solid meat that He is offering, but still I strive to get there one day at a time, even if God has to mix the ‘baby food’ with some ‘solids’ to get me moving. LOL…I’m certain God just wants to wring my neck sometimes! 🙂
Okay, I must be over tired; I’m writing too much….
I voted for the potatoes and gravy, mainly because of the movie ‘A Christmas Story’.
It is always good to remember to be thankful for everything. Thanks for being real for Jesus. Have a great day!
Happy Advent all …
mia.speranza7 — I can’t track you down. Wanted to stop by your blog, too, but had some trouble finding you. Send me your address sometime! I’d like to “meet” you.
Rick — Good to see you here, and I’m trying to track you down now as well. I found one blog site, but it looked like you’ve not been there in a while. Do you have a newer blog, too?
Lori — Welcome to the blogosphere. You’re off to a great start!
And to the rest of you — Gabi, Chris, Darlene, Chrissy, Miriam, Janelle, Minister Mamie, Sarah — Some of you are new friends, some old. But I’m thankful for each one of you. I pray you are blessed with expectant waiting in this season of Advent.
