How Do You Raise the Roof?

May 26, 2012 | 30 comments

With praise, of course!

A happy and blessed weekend from our country church, Our Saviors, straight to you! (This is the view from my yard.)

All right, let’s tear the roof off this place. What worship song really gets you moving? Share in the comment box. (Links welcome!) Let’s Praise the Roof.

Oh Dea … Love this one. I haven’t heard that song in a while. I’m praising with you, friend. Lifting my voice with you, to the King.

Paul told us to rejoice always, and in all things to give thanks — singing praise can do both! Thanks for the lovely post, and for stopping by & commenting at Saved by Grace! God bless,

GREAT point, Laurie. I’m not a very good multi-tasker, but I guess I’m doing JUST that when I sing. 🙂

I’m with Karen 🙂 And I think I’ll claim her two and add a third, just to keep things interesting!

“Savior King” is currently on my autoplay 🙂

So tender and reminds me of singing with my grandmother then my hands extend so high on the “my chains are gone” part! So freeing! Sweet Amazing Grace! Thank you Jesus!

That song is such a wonderful take on an old classic. Tomlin has a unique way of leading worship. I’ve attended two or three of his concerts, and every time, I forget all about Tomlin and can only think on the Lord. He has a wonderful way of ‘getting out of the way’ even though he’s the only human in the spotlight. That is a gift. And it is something I want to model in my regular life.

Wonderful songs, Marsha! I’d love to sing the Lord’s praises next to you someday. Until then, this is the next best thing. I feel like we’re swaying beside each other in the pew of my little country church. God bless you, friend.

May we raise the roof heavenward! Thank you for inviting us to, Jennifer. When my daughter and I sang on tour to the Czech Republic, the dejected countenances of people who had been oppressed for years by Communist rule literally changed before our eyes when we sang praises to God. I wish I had our recording to share of “He Never Failed Me Yet.” But here is a recording of this Gospel song with its powerful message of God’s utter faithfulness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yVZ0bJR8N4&feature=related
And who could not raise hands or raise roofs to the powerful hymns of Kristen and Keith Getty? Here’s In Christ Alone, sung by the composer at Dr. Jeremiah’s church:

And now, no doubt, we’re all raising hands and on our feet for perhaps the greatest praise music of all time! Hallelujah! (And no one can perform it like the British). Glory!

The Gettys are wonderfully gifted. They were here in Iowa, at the college where I teach, back in February. I would have loved to have seen them, but was unable to attend. They have a new(ish) album out with a song called “By Faith” that I really like.

I don’t get to hear it anymore, but everything from James Mark Gulley at Antioch Community Church in Waco. He never uses his name, but I know his voice and guitar strum anywhere.

Wonderful. Thank you Megan. For some reason, your comment took me back to my old church, where my mom and two Anderson sisters would sing in a trio. They almost always sang Gaither songs. And I knew all those songs by heart. They would sing them at our church, and in area churches, and I often went along to hear them when they traveled around. The sisters’ voices blended so well, and it seemed like Mom was a sister, too — the way her voice fit right in. They just sounded so good together. My favorite trio song: “He Touched Me.”

I’m a “worship-filled” person, so it’s sometimes difficult for me to NOT be singing in voice or heart. At present, my favorite is “A New Hallelujah.” Oh, do I rejoice!!!
