Boogity Boogity Boogity

I can get pretty serious around this place. And you know, there is a lot of life to be serious about.

This week, you and I have been talking about our need to take wayside rests, to work out the knots and to find joy in the of our pain.

But have we talked lately about how important it is to laugh? Have I let some uncontained laughter bubble over?

Here’s the truth: We laugh around this home and this farm. A lot.

In our daily lives, that’s a big part of what it means to be Getting Down With Jesus — to give him our whole lives, the good, the bad, the ugly … even the funny.

We think laughter has a holy ring to it,
that our girls’ giggles are sacred,
and that moments where our side aches from all the goofiness are pretastes of Heaven
.

Like the other night, when that full moon rose over these gilded bean-fields:

Our oldest daughter, Lydia, came to us. She said she’d been concerned about what she felt were “unnaturally long arm hairs.” She thought there was a slight chance she might turn into a werewolf overnight.

Thanks be to God, she did, in fact, remain human.

But a few nights ago, our little comedienne dressed up in a wig and furry coat, and howled at the moon outside the dining room window — just to make us laugh. And we did. We laughed the kind of laugh that makes every part of your face come alive. That felt so good.

Then there was Thursday. My favorite farmer cleaned out the smoker. And I went to the store to buy baby-back ribs. All afternoon, he smoked those ribs; he babied those baby-backs.

That night, as we gathered around the table, my favorite farmer offered to lead prayer. (We take turns.) We bowed our heads, and Scott prayed for farmers, for the upcoming harvest and for his family.

Then, after asking the Lord to bless the smoked ribs on our plates, he thanked the Father for me, his wife.

And he did it Just. Like. This:

“And God, I’d also like to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife. Boogity. Boogity. Boogity. Amen.”

(Yes, just like the pastor at the NASCAR race.)

Can I tell you what? Those were THE best ribs I’ve ever eaten.  🙂

Ooooh! This made me laugh so good!

I agree. We bloggers tend to be so serious. And I know I’m supposed to wait until all of the posts are linked up to read them, but I can’t keep myself from peeking in for a laugh or two. Especially when teased with such a fun title!

    Thanks for linking!

Hey Deidra — Thanks for hosting this fun group-writing project. I held my breath when I hit publish yesterday afternoon. I’m still blushing today. I think I really do get into a routine at GDWJ of keepin’ it pretty serious, when quite often, we’re just a bunch of goofballs here on the Lee Farm. … Thank you for the invitation to step out and laugh a little, OUT LOUD. Love you, D.

And all God’s people on the internet said, “Amen! She is smokin’ hot!”

So here’s the thing … I am so NOT smokin’ hot, which is why it’s pretty funny. That night, if I remember correctly, I was in an old T-shirt with sweatpants. No makeup. Ball cap. But it was fun, and it made me smile, and it’s so, so, so good to laugh.

You’re smoking hot to your man, and that’s all that matters.

And those had to be some smoking hot ribs with the habanero sauce.

          Woot! Thanks Megan…

So the ribs and the sauce and the photo. Here’s the deal: We had the smokin’ ribs on Thursday night. But on Friday night, we took the girls to a Mexican restaurant. That bottle of smokin’ hot habanero sauce was on the table, so I had to shoot the photo on my iPhone, because I wanted to use it as an illustration. So we had two smokin’ hot nights in a row. 🙂

Oh Jen…that ‘smokin hot wife’ prayer is waaaaaaaaay better when it’s sung. See? (warning: once you hear this, you’ll be humming it in your head…a whole lot. 😉 )

I’ll bet those ribs were delish. Smokin’ hot – wow. Never happened to me in my entire life. I am eternally grateful for, “You look very nice today, honey.” Believe me when I tell you this, Jennifer – this is effusive in my house. :>)

Now THAT’s some awesome crazy love!!!

Thanks, Jennifer!!! And it isn’t the clothes, hairstyle, or makeup that makes “smokin hot” by the way….but you knew that. And your farmer does too, I see 🙂

How true! How often we are always serious with our posts…Laughter is truly a good medicine. Our family’s that way too, always joking around…Why not make it infectious through posts like this? That’s an awesome smokin’ prayer! Only a hubby whose heart sees knows that…It just happened to be “ribs” for dinner but I’m sure even anything on the table would have tasted its very best because of the “joy” you as a family shared and continue to share! God bless.

This is so funny! Could you all even make it through the prayer without some soft snickering? We are definitely thankful for husbands like ours who think we’re “smokin’ hot” even in sweatpants! God has definitely answered my prayers in giving mine eyes for post-twins me.

Jennifer, this doesn’t surprise me, you know? You love laughter like you love 80s music (I can still see you and your husband singing in the car!). Thanks for joining the writing project with these stories.

    Awesome.

Last night, I was praying aloud over my dinner with a friend, thanking God for my time with her. I was very emotional, and I found myself praying, “And I know I’m crying like she’s about to die, and she isn’t, so thank you for that, too.”

You know God has to be up there smiling at these kinds of prayers.
